Phone Service

I really take my phone service for granted which is why I found the story about a Louisiana town finally getting telephone service to be fascinating. The hamlet of Mink, Louisiana, was finally connected to telephone service this week. My favorite quote in the article has got to be, '"We started in early 1970 trying to get a phone,' Bolton said. 'We'd talk to the phone company but they'd never call back.'" Well, how could they call back? You didn't have a phone. At a cost of over $700,000 to get the town connected, the cost will be subsidized by all telephone service users in the state. Now I have to wonder how long it will be before they start getting calls from telemarketers.
